"We make Portland awesome" is a twice-monthly series. I’m interested building our
community of artists by helping us all find out more about each other.
This week: Marisa of Marisa Messick Jewelry
Hi I’m Marisa, owner and maker of Marisa Messick Jewelry. I make all of my jewelry from my little studio in my home in Eugene, OR. I moved to Eugene recently from Richmond, VA.
What do you make?
I make jewelry mainly out of sterling silver and polymer clay, but I am continually experimenting and playing with new materials and processes. My jewelry is made out of recycled sterling silver whenever possible and I am conscious of using environmentally responsible studio practices. My jewelry is a way for me to find a balance between geometric and organic forms.

Besides making things, what do you do?
I am a server at a French restaurant by day and jeweler by night. In my time in between you can catch me walking my dog or sipping on coffee or enjoying a beer.
What inspires you?
Nature is such a big influence on my work. Right now I’ve been really inspired by crystal clusters, coral and honeycombs. I am constantly looking for new colors, shapes or patterns that I find in nature to incorporate into my jewelry.
Where can your work be found?
What do you love about Portland?
Since I have just moved to the Pacific Northwest, I have to be honest, I have only been to Portland twice in my life. I still have so much more to learn and explore there but so far I love all of the independent shops, delicious food and tasty beverages. If any one has a great recommendation on somewhere I should visit, please let me know! So far I have been loving my new home in Eugene!
Make sure you check out Marisa Messick Jewelry's Etsy shop and website. Thanks for sharing, Marisa!
